As a working musician in college, scheduling and constant creation can get dicey. This is especially prominent when you decide to actively pursue a solo career this year. Jumping in without dipping your toes in to test the water is a risky endeavor. However as a musician, your are branding yourself and constantly searching for what you will broadcast to the public. This is not done as a trial run, once you are public you are out there for real.

MAKING TIME

I take eighteen credit hours per semester, which leaves me with little to no time to buckle down and create. Making time to craft is crucial to your music career and it is what keeps you on your feet. I allow at least 3 hours a day to reflect, write my thoughts, and pluck around on the piano or Logic. This gives me a notebook full of ideas whenever I wish to collaborate or write a song. Write, write, and write some more because chances are if you create something you don't like at the time, you may come back with a new perspective and find use in whatever it may be.

INSPO

I listen to artists that inspire me in some way shape or form in order to grasp a new concept or feel a certain type of way. The constant listening and following of these artists cause me to think on and create content that can do the same. Some artists that I frequently listen to are Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, Everclear, Third Eye Blind, Hole, and Bush. Take notice that these are "older" bands compared to 2020, but I feel it is imperative to look behind you in order to take steps forward. Music in the 90's and before have a different feel than the top 40 does now. Older music, especially 90's alternative rock for me is raw and opinionated and wacky in the best way. Find what inspires you to get in the groove.

FUTURE - 5 YEARS VISION

In the future, specifically five years from now, it's hard to imagine where I will land. However, My goals lead me to want a successful career with what I have provided above. Five years from now will be three years into being on my own with my Commercial Music Performance degree. I wish to be a recording artist, and a polished songwriter who is satisfied with her brand and where she is going. At the moment I am still figuring out what my vision will be, and it would be quite nice to hit fast forward where I feel like I will know where everything fits into place technically and professionally. In this time I will have no classes to fill up my schedule but instead I will have recording sessions and events booked. My passion lies within my ability to follow through with what I love and I feel like five years from now my career will not be a job to me, but a vessel to cope with my emotions and ultimately a project I am constantly improving and proud of.
